The AAPI-2.1 is both a screening tool and an assessment tool that examines risk for practicing abusive and neglecting parenting and child rearing behaviors. The AAPI-2.1 is a 40-item inventory designed to assess the parenting and child rearing attitudes of adolescents and adult parent and pre-parent populations.
The scores are categorized by risk for child maltreatment: Low Risk (score of 8-10), Moderate Risk (score of 4-7) or High Risk (score of 1-3). The AAPI-2 is a tool to measure current parenting beliefs and practices. It does not tell you about whether a parent is likely to abuse their child in the future.
The Revised AAPI Like the AAPI, the AAPI-2 has two forms, Form A and Form B that can be used to assess the parenting and child rearing attitudes and behaviors of adults and adolescent parent and non-parent populations. The validity and reliability of the AAPI-2 supports the use of the inventory as a diagnostic tool.
The AAPI-2 is a norm-referenced inventory. As such, raw scores are converted into sten or standard scores. The sten scores range from 1 to 10. Low sten scores (1 to 3) generally indicate a high risk for abusive parenting behaviors.
Bavoleks theories emphasise empathy, appropriate expectations, and positive discipline as key elements in fostering childrens emotional health and preventing maltreatment. His ideas have shaped how we understand the critical role of nurturing environments in child development.

Scoring - Responses to the items of the AAPI-2 each carry a numerical value of 1 to 5 determined by placing the plastic scoring stencil over the test form. The numerical values are recorded on the AAPI-2 Profile Worksheet for each of the five subscales.
The AAPI-2.5 is designed to assess the parenting attitudes of adult parent and pre-parent populations as well as adolescent parent and pre-parent populations. Adolescents ages 12 to 19 years old are appropriate to respond to the items on the AAPI-2.5.
