In its simplest form, minimum advertised pricing (MAP) is the lowest price a retailer can advertise the product for sale. To clarify, this does not refer to the lowest price they can sell it for in their storejust the lowest that they can show online or in an advertisement.
Typically, you can calculate MAP by reducing the most up-to-date published (or established) Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) by 20%.
In the US, you can enforce MAP pricing through contracts with your retailers. If a shop advertises under your preset competitive price, you can stop supplying them with your brands products. But you cant actually control the final sale price retailers charge customers. MAP pricing legality varies in other countries.
Refers to a manufacturer or distributor/suppliers policy that those it supplies in the sales channel may not advertise prices below some specified amount, i.e., the minimum advertised price, (although they can discount to customers when actually negotiating and completing a sale.)
A minimum advertised price policy (aka MAPP) is a unilateral statement made by a brand owner, in writing, that states the price at which sellers may advertise their products.
