Washington State is not a no-fault state; it follows a tort system. This means the driver who is at fault in an accident is responsible for paying compensation through their insurance to those injured. In other words, fault determines who pays.
In Washington state, you must report any accident to the police that involves injury, death, or significant property damage. If your insurance policy includes uninsured motorist coverage, this can help cover damages if the at-fault driver is never identified.
Obtaining a Copy of an Accident Report If you were in an accident and need help locating your report, please visit .wsp.wa.gov, under Driver select Collision Reports. KCSO Case Numbers will not work on the WSP search page. You will need to enter the driver First and Last name AND the date of the collision.
Accident report forms should include fields for names and contact information of the individuals and witnesses involved, the type of accident, the date and time the accident occurred, the location of the accident, a detailed description of the accident, and room for any additional comments.
Instructions: A $10.50 check or money order is to be made payable to the Washington State Patrol and is to be accompanied with each request. (Please do not send cash.) Mail to: WSP, Collision Records Section, PO Box 42628, Olympia WA 98504-2628.

To request a copy of a police accident report by mail, fill out the Request for Copy of Collision Report (Form FR-50) with as much information as possible. The FR-50 is a two-page document because the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) requires two copies of the report.
If you want to dispute an accident report, its crucial to communicate directly with the investigating officer. Present your side of the story clearly, emphasizing any factual errors or omissions. Request that the officer includes your perspective in an addendum or corrects any inaccuracies in the report.
A copy of the police report can be requested from the court. See the Court Directory for contact information for courts in Washington State.
