The Drug-Free Workplace Program (DFWP) is a program designed to deter employees from using illegal drugs on or off duty. The program is aimed at identifying illegal drug users in order to maintain a safe, secure workplace and efficient operations.
The policys immediate objectives, which are to comply with drug-free workplace laws and regulations (if applicable) and to prevent drug-related workplace accidents, illnesses, absenteeism, and performance problems.
In 1986, President Reagan signed Executive Order 12564, Drug-Free Federal Workplace, setting a goal to prevent Federal employee use of illegal drugs, whether on or off duty.
