The 2016 Sepsis-3 guidelines recommend the diagnosis of sepsis using the qSOFA score, a new screening tool. The qSOFA score comprises three criteria: a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score
The score ranges from 0 to 3 points. The presence of 2 or more qSOFA points near the onset of infection was associated with a greater risk of death or prolonged intensive care unit stay. These are outcomes that are more common in infected patients who may be septic than those with uncomplicated infection.
The qSOFA score is a quick way to identify patients with infections and patients with sepsis and septic shock comprising three components, including SBP
One of the most common systems is the 2nd version of the Acute Physiologic Assessment and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score introduced in 1985. It generates a point score ranging from 0 to 71 based on 12 physiologic variables, age, and underlying health (see table APACHE II Scoring System).
Called the quick SOFA (qSOFA) score, it includes 1 point for each of 3 criteria: (1) respiratory rate 22 breaths/min, (2) altered mental status, or (3) systolic blood pressure (SBP) 100 mm Hg. A qSOFA score 2 is suggestive of sepsis.

People also ask

The SOFA score was designed as a research tool so that groups of patients (e.g., those with sepsis, and infection in the bloodstream which can lead to shock and death) could be categorized based on their risk of death. SOFA is quite accurate when used in sepsis cases and when applied to groups of patients.
