Licensing your pet is the law. County law states that animal owners must register their cats, dogs, and ferrets that are four months of age or older with a county license (Marion County Code, chapter 4, sections 8-9). If you dont have a license for your pet, you could receive a citation and a fine; beginning at $100.
A dog tag is any tag worn on the dogs collar, usually with identifying info. A dog license is whatever your locale issues to show that youve registered your dog, paid the required fee, and shown the required paperwork (usually proof of rabies vaccination).
Broward Countys animal ordinance requires ALL dogs and cats to wear an official Broward County Rabies Tag. Ferrets are not required to wear a county tag. Guard dogs and dogs declared dangerous dogs are required to wear a special Registration Tag.
Broward County requires that all dogs and cats, four months or older, must be registered and wear a Rabies Tag. Your pet must first be vaccinated against rabies to be registered. A copy of a current Rabies Certificate, issued by a licensed veterinarian, must be presented at the time of purchase.
