In December, 2014, the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules approved a new educational requirement for Michigan parents opting their children out of getting vaccinated before entering school.
Whenever children are brought into group settings, there is a chance for diseases to spread. Students must follow state vaccine laws in order to attend school. These laws are the minimum standard to help prevent disease outbreaks in school settings.
1963. Twenty U.S. states require (mandate) children to have several vaccines before going to school for the first time.
According to rules established by the state of Michigan (as of Jan 1, 2015), children must have their current vaccines or a certified, nonmedical waiver from their county health department. If they don't have their vaccines or a waiver, they may not be able to start school.
