DISPLAY FIREWORKS Limited state license allows holding of a single display at a single location, $200 fee. General state license allows the holding and conducting of public displays of dangerous fireworks at various locations and at various times, $1,500 fee.
It is unlawful for any person to conduct a public display without possessing a valid permit for this purpose. It is unlawful for any person to use any special effects fireworks unless he possesses a pyrotechnic operator license.
In California, possession of illegal fireworks is considered a misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of not less than $500 or more than $1,000, or by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year.
Violators could be charged a $1,000 fine. Pursuant to UCMC 7.26, individuals possessing or using illegal fireworks (i.e. any firework other than State of CA Fire Marshal approved Safe and Sane fireworks) may be fined up to $1,000.
