If the Status Light is flashing once every three seconds, the pilot light is lit and the gas control valve is working properly. Make sure the gas control valve is turned to Hot and wait for the water heater to heat back up. It may take several hours for the water to heat up.
This water heater uses a thermopile to generate electricity needed to power the gas control valve. Once the pilot is lit, it may take up to 90 seconds for the thermopile to get hot enough to power the gas control valve. When that happens, the status light will blink once every three seconds indicating normal operation.
This recall includes A. O. Smith 30-gallon natural gas water heaters with model number G6-UT3030NV and serial numbers with the first four digits of 1805 through 1809. A. O. Smith, the model number and the serial number are printed on the data plate located next to the gas water heaters control valve/thermostat.
Flashing lights: If the lights are flashing, it could mean there is a thermostat problem, the pilot light is out, the tank is empty or wont fill, or there is a power or electrical issue. If you havent done so, check your circuit breaker and ensure it hasnt tripped.
Press the small reset button in the center of the thermal switch. If its tripped, you may be able to hear it click. Even if you do not hear the thermal switch click, try lighting the pilot using the instructions on the water heaters label.
