The SHARP SARC/VA Career Course provides instruction that prepares full-time military and Army Civilian SARCs and VAs for their roles and responsibilities at the brigade level and higher. The minimum grade requirements for Soldiers to serve as a SARC are SFC, CW3, MAJ or GS-11 if a civilian.
(1) Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC): Must be a Non Commissioned Officer (SFC or higher) or receive approved request for exception to policy. (2) SHARP Victim Advocate (VA): Must be a Non Commissioned Officer (SSG or higher) or receive approved request for exception to policy.
What is a SAPR Victim Advocate (VA)? A SAPR VA serves as the installations primary sexual assault victim advocate, providing support, advocacy, and liaison services to eligible military and civilian sexual assault victims in ance with DoD and AF policies. SAPR VAs report directly to the SARC.
All Department SARCs and SAPR VAs must complete 32 CEUs every two years following D-SAACP approval in order to renew certification. Two of the 32 CEUs must be Victim Advocacy Ethics training and the remaining 30 CEUs are to be Advocacy / Prevention training.
A career path for a victim advocate may include advancement to supervisory or management positions within the organization they work for, or opportunities for career advancement within the criminal justice system, such as working as a probation or parole officer.
