Paul and Pacific Railroad (CMStPP), better known as the Milwaukee Road (reporting mark MILW), was a Class I railroad that operated in the Midwest and Northwest of the United States from 1847 until 1986.
In 2001, the Wisconsin Central was purchased by Canadian National. Along with the former Illinois Central Railroad, the former Wisconsin Central became part of Canadian Nationals United States holdings and its property integrated into the CN system.
The Milwaukee Road filed for bankruptcy in 1977, ended service the same year, and its Pacific Extension was abandoned in 1980. Its right-of-way in Washington was acquired by the state and converted into the John Wayne Pioneer Trail in Iron Horse State Park, which is part of the National Heritage Trail system.
They might not have incurred that debt but Milwaukee Road was pretty much doomed to fail by operating in a wildly-overbuilt area, by management that threw in the towel after 1957 and stopped trying to run a railroad and made all sorts of moves that hurt the railroad in the long term in an attempt to make it a more

This was abandoned in 1980 with the last train on the night of 3/17/1980. Today the RoW is the Olympian Trail East Portal to Foraker (a few missing or closed trestles)
