Referrals to CAMHS can be made by yourself, your GP, your social worker or a teacher on your behalf. Young people under 16 may need the consent of an adult they trust. We will speak to you about this when you make the referral.
A referral is a request from a doctor, school nurse, social worker, family member, or from the young person themselves, to access help from Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) - formerly known as CAMHS - for the child or young person, and their family.
This is often done by a GP after a GP appointment. But you can also ask your childs school, health visitor, or youth or social worker to make a referral. Self-referrals, made by you or your young person, are also accepted in some areas.
