Definition & Meaning of Charakterreferenz

A "charakterreferenz" is a formal document used primarily in the context of an Au pair application to provide insights into an applicant's character and behavioral tendencies. This form helps to articulate an individual's personal qualities, interpersonal skills, and adaptability to new environments. Traditionally used for assessing the suitability of an Au pair candidate, it allows referees to share first-hand experiences and observations about the applicant's work ethic, reliability, and social interactions.

Charakterreferenz forms include specific sections where referees detail their relationship with the applicant, the duration of their acquaintance, and any pertinent anecdotes that highlight aspects of the applicant's character. This document is crucial for host families who wish to understand the potential Au pair's strengths and areas for development, ensuring a conducive living and working arrangement.

How to Use the Charakterreferenz

To effectively use a charakterreferenz, both the applicant and the referee must be thorough in completing the requisite sections of the form. The applicant should first provide the referee with complete instructions on what is needed, ensuring that the referee understands the significance of the reference letter.
