What is the size of the barrel pattern at the NFR?

Barrels are staked in the center of the barrel at the NFR, if using a side stake, please place stakes as follows 62 between barrels 1 2 and 71 between barrels 1 3 and 2 3. The Mini: 45 between first and second barrel, 65 between barrels 1 3 and 2 3, 25 from timer line to barrels 1 2.

What does 5D mean in barrel racing?

There can be variations on how barrel racing is judged, sometimes they will judge in a 3D or 5D format which is the same set up as the 4D, but you stop at the 3rd division in 3D and for 5D the 5th division is the fastest time plus 4 seconds.

What is the distance between barrels in NBHA?

The National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) use the following layout for governing patterns: A minimum of 15 feet (4.6 m) between each of the first two barrels and the side fence. A minimum of 30 feet (9.1 m) between the third barrel and the back fence.

How far apart are barrel racing barrels?

The distance between each drum varies by venue size, but the standard course, as defined by the WPRA, requires 90 feet between the first barrel and the second; 105 feet between the second and the third, as well as the third and the first; and 60 feet between the start line and both the first and second barrels.

The fastest riders make up the first division; riders in the second division are a half second or slower than the overall fastest time; riders in the third division are one second or slower than the overall fastest time; and riders in the fourth division are two seconds or slower than the overall fastest time.

The barrel pattern is fairly simple; there are three barrels set up in a triangular pattern and each rider must turn each barrel in a clover leaf pattern as fast as they can. Riders may choose to run a pattern that requires one right hand turn and two left hand turns or vice versa.
