Who can fill out section 2 of I-9?

You may designate, hire, or contract with any person you choose to complete, update or make corrections to Section 2 or Supplement B, Reverification and Rehire, on your behalf, such as a member of the general public, personnel officers, foremen, agents, or notaries public.

Who completes section 2 of i9?

You may terminate an employee who fails to present acceptable documentation (or an acceptable receipt for a document) within three business days after the date employment begins. If you fail to properly complete Form I-9, you risk violating section 274A of the INA and may be subject to civil money penalties.

What if I-9 is not completed in 3 days?

You may review the employees document(s) and fully complete Section 2 at any time from the date the employee accepts the job offer and completes Section 1 to within three business days from the date of hire. For example, if the employee begins employment on Monday, you must complete Section 2 by Thursday.
