The VFC program covers every vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to protect children and teens. This includes all vaccines required for school and child care in North Carolina. The VFC program is funded through the CDC and run by the North Carolina Immunization Program (NCIP).
North Carolina law requires that all children must get certain vaccines. This helps protect themselves and others from getting sick. When your child starts kindergarten, 7th grade and 12th grade, their school will check to make sure they have their needed vaccines.
Refusal to have child vaccination isnt child endangerment -- not at least in legal terms (yet). or engage in an occupation involving a substantial risk of danger to the childs life or health. Non-vaccination renders the child to a higher risk of health-related problems -- but its not ``abuse in legal terms.
A vaccine exemption is a special permission that allows you or your child to skip a required vaccine (immunization). In North Carolina, only medical and religious exemptions are allowed. Personal and philosophical beliefs cant be used for exemptions.
130A‑152. Immunization required. (a) Every child present in this State shall be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, poliomyelitis, red measles (rubeola) and rubella.
