Permanent Impairment (PI) compensation is a tax-free, non-economic loss payment paid to veterans under DRCA or MRCA to compensate for permanent impairment arising from injury or disease of an accepted service condition. VEA veterans receive a Disability Compensation Payment.
What is the DVA Points System? The system assesses Permanent Impairment (PI) compensation under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA). It assigns points based on the severity of service-related injuries or illnesses to determine eligibility for lump sums or ongoing payments.
Bodily injury by accident must occur during the policy period. Bodily injury by disease must be caused by or aggravated by the condition(s) of employment. The employees last day of last exposure to the conditions causing or aggravating such bodily injury by disease must occur during the policy period.
Where we assess your impairment at 80 percent or more because of a single injury or disease caused by DRCA service, you may be eligible to get an additional amount. This is known as the Severe Injury Adjustment (SIA). The SIA amount increases for every dependent child you have.
If you have been assessed at 80 impairment points or more, you may be entitled to a tax-free lump sum of over $108,000 per eligible dependent. This payment is provided under the Severe Impairment Payment (SIP) scheme, which was previously known as the Eligible Young Person (EYP) payment.
