The VFW is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. Founded in 1899 and chartered by Congress in 1936, we are the nation's largest organization of war veterans and its oldest major veterans organization.
Purpose. The purpose of the VFW is to speed rehabilitation of the nation's disabled and needy veterans, assist veterans' widows and orphans and the dependents of needy or disabled veterans, and promote Americanism by means of education in patriotism and by constructive service to local communities.
But they do deserve something in return. And many veterans and troops, and their families, are in dire need of your help. As a nonprofit organization, the VFW Foundation receives no government funding. We rely solely on individual donations and corporation sponsorships.
