California State Disability Insurance (SDI) is a partial wage-replacement program for California workers, encompassing both the Disability Insurance (DI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) benefit programs.
You cannot collect disability benefits and Paid Family Leave benefits at the same time. The total combined disability leave and Paid Family Leave in any 52-week period may not exceed 26 weeks. Note that the PFL does not provide for the payment of medical expenses.
If an employee plans to use both short-term disability and Paid Family Leave, the employee must complete a separate request for each. These are separate benefits, which cannot be taken at the same time, and require separate documentation from the employee and employer.
While NY DBL does not provide job protection, NY PFL does. Job protection may also be provided through other federal or state laws such as the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). An employee can have more than one benefit each year, but no more than 26 weeks combined PFL and DBL in a 52-week period.
If youre pregnant, you can receive Disability Insurance (DI) before your due date and after to recover from childbirth.
