Congress passed the Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974 to protect the nations public drinking water. Under this law, EPA sets the standards for drinking water quality. EPA also monitors states, local authorities, and water suppliers who enforce those standards.
The nine Regional Water Boards are referred to by specific names, which are: (1) North Coast, (2) San Francisco Bay, (3) Central Coast, (4) Los Angeles, (5) Central Valley, (6) Lahontan, (7) Colorado River Basin, (8) Santa Ana, and (9) San Diego.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has worked hard to ensure that Angelenos and visitors to the City receive a safe and reliable water supply.
