The General Standards Core Exam is required to become a licensed Pesticide Applicator or Operator in the State of Illinois. It is administered by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and requires a minimum passing score of 70% or greater.
Applicators must also pass one or more category exams appropriate for the sites to which they apply pesticides. Licenses are valid for 3 years.
State law requires anyone in Illinois applying general-use and restricted-use pesticides in the course of employment be licensed. Persons applying restricted-use pesticides on property they own or control must have a private applicator license.
Illinois state law states that an exam can be taken 3 times in a 6 month period. What if Id prefer to take my Exam In-Person? In-person testing is available, free of charge, on a limited basis through the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture certifies and licenses those applying pesticides in outdoor environments and in the production of agricultural commodities.
