Hi!!! At tryouts, they will typically have done clinics for the past few days. There they will teach you a dance, the basics of stunting, and a cheer. You will perform the dance and cheer for the coaches and judges as well as any tumbling you have, then you will get the results some time after that!!
The overall judges will be looking at standing/running tumbling, jumps/dance and overall impression. All three categories will be combined together for the total score with deductions being taken off the total score.
What happens at tryouts: Coaches and captains are looking for new squad members who will work well with the team. They ask about previous cheer, dance, and/or gymnastics experience. If you have cheered before, theyll ask you about stunting and tumbling and may ask you to demonstrate.
You will more than likely tryout in a group of three to four other girls, where you are instructed to perform a run-out with optional tumbling, a toe touch, and the cheer and dance you learned at the beginning of the week.
A standard tryout will include learning and performing a few cheers and possibly doing a short dance, basic jumps, stunting, or tumbling. When and where tryouts are held: Tryouts often take place either after school or in the evening, depending on when the coaches are available.
