AKC is more prestigious(carries more weight), IMO. AKC tests are usually harder and more technical than an HRC(UKC) test at the same level. Marks are typically longer and a dog must honor in an AKC senior test. They dont honor in an HRC seasoned test.
UKC is the United Kennel Club - it is an international registration for purebred dogs. Dogs must have a certified pedigree to be registered - in general, the litter is registered by the breeder and then the individual dogs are registered, based on litter registration.
The AKC will accept dogs registered with the United Kennel Club. The AKC will accept dogs registered with the United Kennel Club. If dog is born outside of USA owner must fill out foreign application.
If youre not planning on working, breeding or showing, registrations dont matter so much. You want good genetics, health testing, low number for intertwined lines (theres a word for it and Im blanking), good temperament, etc. Good puppies are worth waiting for.
The UKC is similar to the AKC in its focus on preserving purebred records, educating the public, and partnering with clubs to run dog shows and sporting events. But while the AKC prioritizes form above all else, the UKCs programs celebrate the entire package of looks, physical skill, and intelligence.
