It can include: your usual household rubbish. unwanted or unusable items such as old mattresses, furniture or electrical items. garden waste. oils and paints. scrap metal such as old car parts. septic tank sludge. DIY waste such as rubble, timber or bricks.
Residents are required to surrender a valid permit to site staff at the Household Waste Recycling Site on each visit. Residents who wish to use a trailer to transport their waste will require a permit. Trailers may only be towed by a car.
While its not an option we would recommend, you can of course take your old mattress to your local tip. However, to reduce the number of items we send to landfill each year, try to make use of other ways to dispose of your mattress instead.
Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are provided for residents for the disposal of your domestic waste only. You can bring trailers as well as a car as long as youre not exceeding the limit on soil, rubble, hardcore, tyres and asbestos.
You can take unwanted household items, such as furniture, TVs, fridges, beds and mattresses and dispose of them for free at one of our household waste recycling centres.

Take Your Mattress to a Recycling Facility You can find your nearest recycling facility using Recycle Nows search tool. We recommend getting in touch with your local centre to see if they accept mattresses. If they do, take your mattress along and theyll deal with it.
COUNCIL OR RECYCLING CENTRES In terms of the items that you can take to dispose of, the majority of local recycling centres are reasonably inclusive. As well as general household waste, youll be able to take larger furniture pieces like sofas or dining sets as well as mattresses, carpets and cardboard.
If you dont have transport big enough to fit a mattress, you can request that it is collected by the council for mattress recycling. Most councils charge around 10-20 to pick up bulky items but will differ depending on which city you live in. You can request council collect via your local gov.uk website.
