Answer and Explanation: The final message from the Chorus is to remind the audience that humans cannot escape their fate, but that people have the capacity to gain wisdom in their old age. The Chorus in Antigone, as in the play Oedipus Rex, is made up of Theban elders.
The opening events of the play quickly establish the central conflict. Creon has decreed that the traitor Polynices must not be given proper burial, and Antigone is the only one who will speak against this decree and insist on the sacredness of family.
The message of Antigone is that it is unwise to never admit error or change ones mind and that it is especially unwise and dangerous for a ruler, such as Creon, never to admit fault.
A central theme of Antigone is the tension between individual action and fate. While free choices, such as Antigones decision to defy Creons edict, are significant, fate is responsible for many of the most critical and devastating events of the trilogy.
More than a few critics have noted that Antigone shows little concern with what will become of her home city, Thebes, after her death. She is indifferent to the ultimate interests of the city-state, the polis, in which she lives. Hence, one can argue that she is not political at all; she is apolitical.
