Definition and Summary of the Texas Revolution. Summary and definition: The Texas Revolution, aka the Texas War of Independence, was the military conflict between the government of Mexico, led by General Santa Anna, and Texas colonists.
The Texas Revolution, also known as the War of Texas Independence, occurred between October 2, 1835 and April 21, 1836. It was caused by political and cultural differences between the Mexican government and the growing number of American settlers in Texas.
The Texas Declaration of Independence was issued during a revolution against the Mexican government that began in October 1835 following a series of government edicts including the dissolution of state legislatures, disarmament of state militias, and abolition of the Constitution of 1824.
Now more cautious, delegates to the Consultation of 1835 at San Felipe de Austin voted against declaring independence, instead drafting a statement, which became known as the Declaration of Causes, promising continued loyalty if Mexico returned to a constitutional form of government.
