Residents can submit a Work Order Request to Public Works, or call (706) 236-2495 to schedule yard debris pickups. A Public Works employee will come out to provide an estimate of approximate cost (if any) and pick up date. Once appointment has been made, the debris should be placed on top of the curb or ditch.
EGLE encourages Michigan residents to compost, schedule pick-up with local waste providers that offer yard waste collection, or find a drop off location for composting yard waste by calling your local municipality, seeing EGLEs map of registered composters, or searching the Michigan Recycling Directory.
Recycling and Composting In 2018, 32.1% of MSW (by weight) generated in the U.S. was recovered for recycling or composting, diverting 93.9 million tons of material from landfills and incineratorsabout 2.8 times the amount diverted in 1990. In 2018, 27% of recovered MSW was composted.
Residents can call 311 to request separate yard waste collection. Yard waste should be left in the alley or at the curb for collection, and bagged separately from garbage in the black cart and separately from recycling in the blue. The Department will collect the bags based on 311 requests and take it to be composted.
Large limbs and other yard debris that will not fit into the debris cart may be placed behind the curb and a request for pick-up made to Public Works at (910) 892-2948. The debris will be evaluated by City staff to determine if it meets City code. If not, disposal fees may apply.
