Annual Renewal Process and Timelines Each business location must have a separate permit renewed individually. The process is straightforward and can be completed online through the Rhode Island Division of Taxations Taxpayer Portal. Applications require basic business details, and the renewal fee is $10 per permit.
To renew a permit, the holder must fill out the License/ID/Permit Application or the LI-1 Form. This form can be found on our website, .dmv.ri.gov, under the Forms tab and License Forms. The fee for someone under 18 to renew their permit is $12.50; the fee for someone 18 and older is $7.50.
The sales tax is imposed upon the retailer at the rate of 7% of the gross receipts from taxable sales. In addition to the sales tax, there is also a 6% hotel tax on the rental of rooms in hotels, motels or lodging houses.
To apply, submit Sales Use Exemption for an Exempt Organization (Form EXO-SUE) with proof of federal tax-exempt status to the Rhode Island Division of Taxation. Exempt certificates are valid for four years and require renewal.
