ANSI Z358 requires emergency shower and eyewash stations to provide tepid water in the range of 60 F to 100 F (16 C to 38 C). Temperatures that exceed this range can scald the injured person and cause a higher rate of chemical absorption by the skin.
The OSHA requirements for emergency eyewashes and showers, found at 29 CFR 1910.151(c), specify that where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate
Flush eyewash stations(s) weekly and check for the following: Is the water clear? Are the jets working properly? Is the area around the station clear of obstructions? Is there a bucket located under the eyewash to collect runoff? Are there any leaks?

Per the ANSI Z358. 1 standard, you are required to activate the emergency equipment weekly to verify operation and to ensure there is a flushing fluid supply and clear the supply line of any sediment build-up that could prevent the flushing fluid from being delivered due to stagnant water.
Installed and portable emergency eyewash units must be capable of delivering not less then 0.4 gallons (1.5L) of clean water per minute. Portable eyewash units must be capable of delivering water continuously for at least 15 minutes. The water must be readily available to wash both eyes simultaneously.
For these types of stations, the standard recommends a water flow of 0.4 gallons per minute (gpm) at 30 psi, and the water flow must be sustained for at least 15 minutes. An eyewash gauge should be used to verify and test the flow pattern.
Eyewashes and ADA Standards While ADA has no specific guidelines for eyewashes or eye/face washes, it does have other guidelines that can be helpful such as maximum sink and/or counter height. ADA allows a maximum sink and/or counter height of 34 inches above the floor.
