VPSD has provided fire protection and emergency medical services to the areas of The Villages since October 1, 1999. Initially, the Department was comprised of one Station (Station 41- Lake Sumter Landing), one Fire Chief, and 12 Firefighter/Paramedics.
The Department of Fire and Rescue is under the direction of Chief Jeremy Holloway and is a combination system made up of: 8 Volunteer Fire Departments. 6 Volunteer Rescue Squads. 2 Combination Fire Rescue.
Services are provided at 23 fire stations and 8 life guard stands; (see site list for details). Most services are restricted to residents of the city of Long Beach.
All 26 of the Fire Departments in Rockland County are 100% Volunteer. Departmental Training programs are supplemented by the Experienced Instructors and top-notch facilities at the Rockland County Fire Training Center.
