Class I wildlife is a defined list of species that are considered to present a real or potential threat to human safety. Possession of Class I wildlife requires a permit. Due to the nature and habits of Class I species, Class I wildlife may not be possessed as a personal pet.
You must obtain a Wildlife Possession Permit for Class II animals from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). Additionally, the raccoon must be captive-born and purchased from a USDA-licensed breeder ; capturing a raccoon from the wild is prohibited. The permit costs $31 and must be renewed annually.
Class 1 species are considered inherently dangerous to humans and may only be possessed by permitted exhibitors or commercial propagators. Personal possession of any Class 1 species is not allowed. Class 1 species permits will only be issued if the applicant has met all requirements in T.C.A. 70-4-404 and T.C.A.
Species which are designated as Class II are: Felidae. African golden cats (Profelis aurata) Crocodylia. Alligators (family Alligatoridae) Cercopithecidae. Douc langurs (genus Pygathrix) Giraffidae. Giraffes (genus Giraffa) Tapiridae. Tapirs. Bovidae. Atelidae. Pitheciidae.
Class I off-highway vehicle means a motorized vehicle with not less than four non-highway tires, no more than six non-highway tires, whose top speed is greater than 35 mph, that is limited in total dry weight up to 2,500 lbs, that is 80 inches or less in width, and that has a non-straddle seating capable of holding
