Service-connected Death VA will pay up to $2,000 toward burial expenses for deaths on or after September 11, 2001, or up to $1,500 for deaths prior to September 11, 2001. If the Veteran is buried in a VA national cemetery, some or all of the cost of transporting the deceased may be reimbursed.
If youre the surviving spouse or child of a Veteran, fill out an Application for DIC, Death Pension, and/or Accrued Benefits (VA Form 21P-534EZ). If youre a surviving parent, fill out an Application for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation by Parent(s) (VA Form 21P-535).
You can file a claim for increased disability compensation if you have a rated service-connected disability thats gotten worse. Youll need to submit up-to-date medical evidence that shows your disability has gotten worse. You can file an increased claim to request these changes: An increase in your disability rating.
Certain benefits are available to cover burial expenses for any veteran who died as a direct result of a service-connected disability or for those veterans whose service-connected ailment was found by the VA to be a contributing cause to the veterans death. Benefits may also extend to some dependents and survivors.
