You can order birth, adoption, marriage, civil partnership and death certificates from the General Register Office ( GRO ) to help you research your family history and family tree. GRO has all the records registered in England and Wales from July 1837. Youll need to look at parish records to trace back further.
There are about 1,750 full and part-time registrars in England and Wales, and about 500 in Scotland.
If you want to order certificates by telephone you can call +44 (0) 300 123 1837, Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, and Sat 9am-1pm. You can also request an application form by phone.
