Explore@UNC is Carolinas one-week, on-campus pre-college program that lets high school students test-drive college life and academic paths. Over five days, youll learn from UNC faculty and current students, tour labs and studios, and dive into two academic tracks.
Precollege is an educational experience the helps high school students prepare for the transition to a college environment. These programs often feature college-level courses. Some are online and others give you the chance to live on campus in the residence halls.
Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis as applications are submitted. Classes fill quickly, so students should submit the application as early as possible. Applicants must have completed at least the 9th grade by June 15, 2025. Applicants should be pursuing a rigorous high school curriculum.
Some of these programs are open enrollment (anyone can attend), and others require admission through an application process. The selective programs typically require teacher recommendations, application essays, and standardized test scores. Check a specific programs website for its admissions requirements.
No. As a rule of thumb, generally if you have to pay for the program, its not worth it. Summer pre-college courses are almost never worth it in my opinion. You are better off taking courses through self-study or at your local community college (cheaper and more effective). CTY isnt a super competitive program.
