The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) is responsible for the regulation and the management of Arizonas water. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), meanwhile, monitors, reports, and protects Arizonas groundwater quality.
Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) Per the 1980 Groundwater Management Code, the Arizona Department of Water Resources has various responsibilities to regulate groundwater and other water sources and how water providers use that water.
The Act includes several progressive provisions for managing groundwater such as establishing the Arizona Department of Water Resources, designating Active Management Areas, ensuring a 100-year water supply for new developments and implementing mandatory conservation requirements across various sectors.
ADWR regulates all groundwater wells in Arizona. Well regulations are vital to the proper management and protection of our groundwater. Well construction standards help prevent contamination of the well and the surrounding groundwater.
