Deliver the subpoena Hand deliver (serve) a copy (not the original) of the subpoena to the person or business you are subpoenaing. Anyone, even you, can serve your subpoena, but it must be done in person by someone 18 or older and not by mail.
Personal Service: Pursuant to FRCP Rule 45(b)(1) a subpoena must be personally delivered to the person whose attendance is required by the subpoena. A person who serves the subpoena must be at least 18 years of age.
For a deposition subpoena issued in a civil action, the University has either 15 days after the service, or 20 days after issuance of the deposition subpoena, whichever date is later, in which to respond. (Code Civ. Proc. 2020.410(c).)
