Out of Area Extension Out of area extensions are available for military, out of area students and for out of area business reasons. They are valid for maximum of 1 year. You must apply each year prior to renewal date. Must be able to provide: Proof of Ownership and Proof the vehicle owner or driver is out of the area.
There is an exemption for emission requirements for senior citizens who meet the following three criteria: The owner is 65 years old or older. The vehicle is at least 10 years old. The vehicle is driven less than 5,000 miles per year (you must provide the mileage and fill out a senior exemption form each year)
Military members serving in a combat zone or contingency operation qualify for an automatic extension, which will extend the deadline to file a return, pay taxes owed, or file a claim for a refund.
