Ride-Alongs allow citizens to experience some of the day to day challenges that law enforcement officers face. They also demonstrate the critical role that dispatchers and other personnel play in ensuring citizens and officers safety.
Ride-alongs are offered by many police departments worldwide. There is a minimum age to participate in a ride-along. Depending on the department, it is often somewhere between the ages of 12 and 18. When participation of those under 18 is permitted, consent from a parent or legal guardian is required.
Ask questions, dont get too personal, stay professional, follow their lead and do what they say. You cant be in the way if you follow the instructions given to you. The officers picked for rides usually want to do it and enjoy the opportunity to connect with the community. You wont bother them.
Officers shall not have tattoos (visible or not visible) that depict obscene or gang related images, or extremist or otherwise offensive images which may bring the Division into disrepute. Officers shall not have any visible tattoos on the head, neck, or hands except as outlined in Section II,I,3,b,(2).
