How does Net Energy Metering billing work? Net Energy Metering (NEM) tracks your net energy use once youre interconnected with the SCE grid. Your bill calculates the difference between surplus energy from your system and the energy you consume to determine whether you owe a balance or have credit each month.

How do I check my NEM status?

You can always check your status on PowerClerk, or send an email to customer.generation@sce.com. For general program questions, send an email to nem@sce.com.

What is a NEM balance?

Your NEM bill will contain charges for any energy you use from the grid, minus any available credit youve earned for excess energy your renewable system produced. This means youll either have a positive or negative balance.

Whats the difference between NEM 2 and NEM 3?

The biggest change from NEM 2.0 to NEM 3.0 is the rates at which solar owners are compensated for the excess electricity they put on the grid (known as export rates).

How long will NEM 2.0 be grandfathered?

In the event of a new NEM tariff, NEM 2.0 customers are grandfathered to their tariff for 20 years from their PTO date.
