Alaska law requires holders to make a diligent effort to locate owners with property of $100 or more. The holder must send a written notice to the apparent owner at the owners last known address informing the owner that the holder is in possession of property subject to escheat to the State of Alaska.
If the value of your claim is under $2,500, then the cost of filing is only $50. However, if the value you are claiming is over $2,500, then the cost of filing is $100. Most people who file or defend small claims cases do not use lawyers.
