While international students need to take a few extra steps and precautions to successfully transfer schools, it is a very approachable process.
You need to inform the DSO that you have arrived in the United States and want to transfer immediately to another SEVP-certified school. You must show proof of acceptance to your new school. You must report to your new school and enroll in a full course of study within 30 days of arriving in the United States.
An F-1 student may transfer between SEVP-certified schools. Regulations governing school transfers are in 8 CFR 214.2(f)(8). The transfer process is a way to electronically move Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records and retain the same SEVIS identification (ID) number for the student.
You are eligible to request a SEVIS record transfer during the 60-day grace period following your program completion. However, remember to allow for ISS processing; contact ISS at least 3 weeks before the end of your 60-day grace period to request the SEVIS transfer.
Your employer must petition for you by submitting the necessary forms to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). You will also need to provide documentation, which includes: Transcripts from your college or university as proof of your advanced degree. Documentation that demonstrates your work experience.

People also ask

A SEVIS transfer is the process of moving your SEVIS record from your current school to a new school, after you are admitted. Admission to a new school alone does not automatically allow an F-1 student to begin studies at another school.
