The Mississippi Self-Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) is designed to help individuals receiving Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits start their own businesses by providing entrepreneurial training and mentoring. Eligible participants must have a viable business idea, be likely to exhaust their unemployment benefits, and engage actively in establishing their business. SEAP offers intensive training on various business topics and allows participants to focus on their business without seeking other employment. Interested individuals can apply through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security website.

Is seap selective?

Students will be selected on the basis of grades, science and mathematics courses taken, scores on national standardized tests, areas of interest, teacher recommendations and personal student statement. High school students receive a $3,500 Academic Award, returning students receive $4,000 from the Saxman One.

What does seap mean?

The Self-Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) allows people who are out of work and meet certain requirements to start their own business while collecting Unemployment Insurance benefits.

How do I get into the seap program?

To apply for SEAP, you must currently be enrolled in high school (you may be taking college level courses for college credit) and have completed grade 9 by the time of application (some labs make exceptions to the age minimum; students who have yet to complete 9th grade should consult the Labs page for eligibility

How competitive is a seap internship?

SEAP is a competitive program with around 300 placements in more than 38 laboratories around the country in which many participants go on to careers within the DoN. Interns are selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendations, and career and research interests.

Is it hard to get into seap?

I can not be for certain, however, SEAP is very competitive with only ~10% of applicants getting in iirc. The unfortunate thing is that they do not award SEAP slots to whoever is the BEST out of the bunch. Instead, the program introduces students to DoD laboratories and government work.
