The CCP requires registrants to maintain competence and enhance the provision of nursing professional services. The CCP consists of a self-directed learning plan, required education, quality assurance review and competence assessment.
Continuing competence is the ongoing development of knowledge, skills, and judgment. It supports your ability to practise safely and ethically throughout your career. The Continuing Competence Program (CCP) is a regulatory program designed to ensure quality and accountability.
The CCP Journey page is designed to support nurses in completing their Continuing Competency Program (CCP) Forms by providing clear guidance on the self-assessment process, developing a learning plan that meets the required criteria, and understanding the steps to take if selected for a CCP Review.
In Canada, you must become a registered nurse (3-4 years full time studies to obtain a post-secondary degree) and have a minimum amount of clinical experience to meet the acceptance criteria into a two year full-time 12 month a year graduate degree program with required theory and clinical hours.
The Continuing Competence Program audit process verifies that LPNs have met the requirements of the program. Each year, LPNs are selected to participate in the audit process. The audit validates compliance with the declaration made on the registration renewal application that the learning plan(s) have been completed.
