Middle School Athletics FCPS offers middle school cross country in the fall and outdoor track in the spring. Any current FCPS middle school student, enrolled in at least five courses, who is in good standing at their school, and is eligible to participate in the middle school after school program.
A JV team consists entirely of players in 10th grade or below. A small school is a school with fewer than 700 students in 10th through 12th grades that is a public school and has a non-selective admission policy.
A middle school is composed of Grades 6-8 inclusive. All Middle school students, regardless of grade level may participate in interscholastic athletic competition if they meet the eligibility requirements, except that sixth (6th) grade students may not participate in football.
Grade level doesnt matter if you work hard enough For most of the sports I was in during middle school, there were two teams: JV and varsity. Usually, 7th graders would be on JV and 8th graders would be on varsity, but exceptions were made if an athlete deserved to be on a certain team more than the other.
Junior Varsity (JV) Also, 7th and 8th graders who have satisfied all the selection classification requirements may be included. At this level, there may be limitations as to the number of students on the team.

This is not unusual; many towns around the country charge athletic fees ranging from $150 to $660 per student per sport. Most districts also have family caps. In Massachusetts, public school athletic fees range from $200 to $400 with some schools having tiered costs for the more expensive sports such as hockey.
JV stands for Junior Varsity. Its typically made up of freshmen and sophomores (15-16 year olds). Varsity is the senior team made up primarily of juniors and seniors (17-18 year olds). If a player is particularly skilled, they may play varsity sooner than is typical.
