Assessment Schedule: An OBRA assessment (comprehensive or Quarterly) is due every quarter unless the resident is no longer in the facility. There must be no more than 92 days between OBRA assessments. An OBRA comprehensive assessment is due every year unless the resident is no longer in the facility.

What does the MDS assessment include?

These assessments are performed and recorded by nursing home staff, and include information on a number of aging-relevant domains including functional and cognitive status, psychosocial functioning, geriatric syndromes, and life care wishes.

How long does it take to complete an MDS assessment?

Rehab Residents use MDS time based upon their length of stay: Less than 12 days = 2.15 hours per resident. Greater than 12 days but less than 30 days = 3.5 hours per resident.

What is the timeline for MDS submission?

- For all other comprehensive MDS assessments, the RAPs Completion Date (VB2) may be no later than 14 days from the Assessment Reference Date (A3a). - For Quarterly or MPAF assessments, the MDS Completion Date (R2b) may be no later than 14 days from the Assessment Reference Date (A3a).

How long should it take to complete a comprehensive MDS?

On average, it takes five hours and five minutes to complete one Minimum Data Set (MDS). Nurse assessment coordinators (NACs) spend an average of 80 minutes on the OBRA Comprehensive Assessment, 54 minutes on care planning, and 171 minutes on Care Area Assessments (CAAs).
