Subjects will perform a single leg triple hop for distance with each lower extremity. After demonstration, each subject will be allowed 1 trial per leg. The test will begin with the toes immediately behind the starting line. The subject will perform three hops consecutively prior to the completion of a trial.
The Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) is a questionnaire containing 20 questions about a persons ability to perform everyday tasks. The LEFS can be used by clinicians as a measure of patients initial function, ongoing progress and outcome, as well as to set functional goals.
The median score for the LEFS for the whole population was 77 (out of a maximum of 80). Men and women had similar median scores (78 and 76, respectively), and younger individuals had better scores. Participants who were unfit for work had worse scores.
Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) Each item is scored on a 5-point scale from 0 to 4 point scale (0=extreme difficulty or unable to perform activity, 4=no difficulty). Total LEFS scores can vary from 0 to 80; higher scores represent higher levels of LE function.
Lower Extremity Functional Test Protocol The LEFT consists of eight components (agility tasks) with each task performed twice: forward run, backward run, side shuffle, carioca, figure 8 run, 45 cuts, 90 cuts (Appendix Table 1).
