Prehospital Trauma Life Support. NAEMTs Prehospital Trauma Life Support is recognized around the world as the leading continuing education program for prehospital emergency trauma care. PHTLS course improves the quality of trauma care and decreases mortality.
ATLS bears some similarities to ALS in that its first steps include airway management, breathing, and ventilation procedures and follow the ABCDE approach. But ultimately, ATLS focuses on trauma wounds rather than cardiac and respiratory crises.
Tailored from the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course of the American College of Surgeons, EMST is recognised as equivalent to ATLS internationally.
The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care.
ITLS and ATLS are different courses in that they are accredited with different international bodies (ITLS being accredited with the American Academy of Emergency Physicians) but both courses teach a systematic approach to trauma and trauma management.
