Founded in 1884, The Big Fresno Fair is the 5th largest fair in the State and represents the 21st District Agricultural Association, an entity of the California Department of Food Agricultures (CDFA) Division of Fairs Expositions.
October 7-11, 1884 The First Fresno Fair was held. It ran five days and consisted mainly of a horse racing meet for trotters, a livestock department and a few small produce exhibits.
Although its in the heart of Californias most productive agricultural region, Fresno is also a sophisticated city of gorgeous gardens and parks, with a vibrant creative community and one unforgettable (and underground) attraction you wont find anywhere else. Its also the Central Valleys largest city.
The Big Fresno Fair is the 4th largest fair in California, and reflects Fresno Countys agricultural heritage and highlights the artistry within our community. More than 600,000 people pass through the gates each year expecting BIG fun at the Central Valleys biggest event.

County Ownership and Management The fairgrounds property was bought by Fresno County in 1901 for $30,000 and a period of uncertainty and missed years of the fair followed.
The Fresno Fairgrounds encompasses 165 acres of land in the City of Fresno. The land is owned by Fresno County and leased to the Fair under a 50-year land lease that allows it to continue to operate.
