Deferred disposition is a type of probation offered to a defendant during a plea agreement before sentencing or conviction. Probation is a criminal penalty imposed after a conviction that allows the defendant to avoid imprisonment.
The judge will determine the conditions and duration of the deferred disposition. They will dismiss the case at the end of the period if the defendant doesnt violate any of the conditions. Conditions commonly include anger management or alcohol abuse classes, community service, probation, and restitution.
Criminal Records With a deferred entry of judgment (DEJ), you enter a plea of guilty or no contest without the judge immediately entering a judgment. If you complete probation, the judge never enters judgment and dismisses the case without a conviction.
A deferred disposition is when the Court sets aside sentencing you to anything specific, such as a term of probation or incarceration for a period of time. If you receive a deferred disposition you will be assigned a probation officer who will help you successfully complete your conditions.
A deferred adjudication shows up on a background check; employers can see the crime and the plea entered. Because of this, its usually better for job applicants to be upfront about a deferred adjudication to put them in a better position.
