A dog trailer is a trailer with axles at either end of the trailer, a pig trailer has the axles centred on the trailer.
All travel trailers over 7,500 pounds require an inspection in Texas. What is this? So if you have a travel trailer over the weight threshold, you will need to have it properly inspected to receive a passed inspection sticker from the State of Texas.
Pig trailer: When a trailer has just one axle, its defined as a pig trailer. The axle is found in or near the middle of the trailer, holding the weight of the load with two wheels. It has a drawbar connecting it to the towing vehicle. Most caravans, boat trailers and box trailers fall into the pig trailer grouping.
On used trailers, with a gross weight over 4,000 pounds, all that is needed is the title. For used trailers less than 4,000 pounds a bill of sale and a copy of the registration is required. Any trailers that exceed a gross weight of over 4,500 pounds are required to pass the State of Texas annual safety inspection.
The following dimensions must not be exceeded: (a) Combination length of the towing vehicle, trailer and its load 19.00m (b) The maximum width of a trailer and its load 2.50m. (c) Trailer length 12.20m. (d) Forward projection 8.50m. (e) Front projection 1.20m.

Trailer Inspection Requirements Certain trailers require an inspection prior to registration. If your trailer has a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) that is more than 7,500 pounds, an inspection is required. This includes trailers, semitrailers, boat trailers, pole trailers, mobile homes, and travel trailers.
If it is a new trailer, you must bring the Manufacturer Certificate of Origin (MCO). If the trailer is used but has a gross weight of 4,000 pounds or less, bring a bill of sale and registration receipt. If the trailer is used and has a gross weight exceeding 4,000 pounds, you will need to bring the trailers title.
For used trailers with a gross weight over 4,000 pounds, a certificate of title is sufficient, and for used trailers under 4,000 pounds, a bill of sale plus the registration receipt is sufficient. Trailers that have a gross weight that exceeds 4,500 pounds must pass an annual safety inspection.
